Comparative study of Gravindex Slide Test with Other Tests for Pregnancy

Abstract
The desirable characteristics of a pregnancy testing system are accuracy, simplicity, economy and rapidity of reaction. The newly developed immunological Gravindex slide test for pregnancy has been reported to achieve almost all of these criteria.
A comparative study with four kinds of pregnancy test such as Gravindex] slide, Friedman, Cervical mucus crystallization and Maturation index ¡Æwas performed simultaneously on 51 cases in order to evaluate each test in terms of these criteria and the following results were obtained. 1) In normal pregnancy cases, both immunological Gravindex slide and Biological Friedman test showed 100o positive reaction and both were correlated with 100% reliability.
2) Immunological Gravindex slide test showed 92.27. in over-all accuracy whereas, Biological Friedman test showed 96-61%, thus the latter appeared to be more accurate in detecting pregnancy than the former.
3) The examination of cervical mucus crystallization d1tring pregnancy revealed atypical and less reliable pregnancy pattern up until 20 weeks of pregnancy, but it tends to become increasingly typical for pregnancy after 20 weeks of pregnancy. This C.M.C. test showed merely 75% in over-all accuracy, however it seemed to be feasible to be utilized as an instant screening test for pregnancy.
4) The Colpo-cytological Maturation Index showed 64.9% in over-all accuracy which was found to be the least reliable method of above all. In this study, it was found to be doubtful to attempt to utilize this M.I. as a pregnancy test.
